Looks Like Daddy

Sometimes I get wrapped up in my "prayer list" for God. I can find myself sitting there rambling off five hundred things that are my heart's desires. I am sure He sits there just laughing at me and my sometimes jaded faith, even in all the requests I may present, He is often up to something even better than I could dream.

When we began the adoption process, I prayed for so many things. Before we knew about D and his story I prayed for his birth mother, down to where she might be sleeping and what she might be eating, for her heart. I prayed for officials helping us in this process and ethics. I prayed for the health and well being of my son. I prayed for his life and the many years of it that were to come. For his salvation and that God would use his life for His glory.

One thing I never even thought to pray for were his physical features, I mean why would anyone? There is not a space on your adoption application to specify what smile you prefer after all, but boy did God have bigger plans than even I could have dreamed or prayed for.

Knowing we were adopting from Uganda, we never even dreamed our child would look like us, and honestly it never crossed our minds to even want that. We knew our child would would look different from us and that was okay. We knew we would likely get comments about it for the rest of our lives, and that was okay too.

It wasn't in the first pictures or even our first encounters with him that we noticed it. L and I both have fuller cheeks and we did notice that in the first photos we received of D, but chalked it up to us being silly.

Then a few days after being together we were at a park visiting with some Ugandans and they began to tell us L looked like he was from the same tribe as D. We laughed at the comment knowing their skin was obviously very different, but after closer looks we realized maybe it was true.

And what an immense blessing that is. My two boys do look alike and people comment on it all of the time. The have similar facial features and expressions...often an identical smile. Just the other day I was watching D from a few steps away play with some kids, and the look on his face was so L!

I LOVE IT. Sometimes when God puts us in families, biologically or through adoption, we might not look anything like our parents. But I am so glad that D resembles L. He is a RADTKE and I am so glad for this blessing. I am blessed with two good looking boys :)

Now I pray all these grand things for D's life and for God to use him for His glory...I cannot wait to see all He has planned that far surpasses what I could dream of myself!

Womack Adoption: Another $1000 Match

Yesterday I posted about the Womacks - a family that is dear to us and just found out they have been matched with a precious girl who will be born in TWO weeks! The Womacks are saying YES! to their THIRD adoption in just two years and we wanted to raise as much money as possible for them.

A family had offered a $1000 match grant for every $1 that was donated. If I am honest I thought this might take the entire two weeks...or at least a few days...but thank goodness God's vision is bigger than mine. In just 10 short hours you helped us raise $1850 for this family, which turned into $2850 for them with the match grant. PRAISE GOD!!!

I am in awe of our Lord this morning and so very grateful for how He provides for what He calls us to. If you are thinking about adoption but have thought the ever so common "but how in the world can we pay for that?" trust me when I tell you...if He is calling you to it He will provide for it.

Supporting The Womack's Adoption

Along our adoption journey we have had the honor of getting to know some pretty amazing people. Down right awesome, God loving, people. It is a gift to be able to share life with people whose heart beats the same as yours for adoption. Who know what you are going through and support you.

The Womacks are are one of those families. They live here in the Austin area and go to our church. We have had the honor of walking with them through their TWO adoptions they completed in just about a year from Uganda.

Now, they have just found out they have been matched with a domestic baby girl who will be born in just TWO WEEKS. This little girl is expected to be born with down syndrome and a heart condition. The Womacks have said yes again to the Lord's calling of growing their family through adoption. You can read from their blog here.

This will be THREE adoptions in under two years. They so selflessly and joyfully say YES! to the Lord. It is beautiful.

Because they just found out they were chosen for this precious girl, and she will be born so very soon, we want to help them raise as much support as we can as fast as we can. A family that wishes to remain anonymous would like to match every $1 up to $1,000. That means every $1 you give counts for $2 and helps this family get closer to having their adoption funded. No donation is too big or too small.

When people tell me that the cost of adoption is what keeps them from adopting, I always say God funds what He favors, and we know He favors adoption. We have seen Him do amazing things in such a short amount of time through our adoption journey and so many others and I cannot wait to see how He provides here too.
